Trip to Chichen Itza

117 miles from Cancun is Chichen Itza a pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization located in the northern center of the Yucatan Peninsula. The tour guide explained how unique the pyramid was made to follow the Mayan calendar and set up to show the beginning of each season. It is very intriguing!

We were fascinated with the "ball field" and the story our tour guide told about how the game was played. The game was played 7 against 7 on a field longer than a football field. They played with a bouncy type ball and hit it off the head, chest, leg, etc to get it into the "hoop". The best player on the winning team was beheaded with pride. As one of our players noted "I would take the loss!"

Buying souvenirs and snacks was the ending of our time at Chichen Itza. Coach Jones bought a hat for his daughter and Coach Show bought an ice cream bar (NO pepsi around!)
